A Prayer For A Responsive Heart

Jesus, day after day, we hear familiar voices and repeated sounds that have become a routine part of our lives. In the midst of all the clamoring noises we want to make time in our busy schedule to become familiar with Your voice so that we’re led by Your spirit in that which we do and say. We want to be quick in hearing Your prompting voice remind us, “This is the way” when tempted to walk in our own ways. We want Your Holy Spirit to convict and bring us to repentance when we have sinned. We also want to be familiar with Your affirming voice that says, “Well done” when we have been obedient to Your beckoning call. Soften our hearts, Lord, so that we not only hear Your voice, but we also feel Your compassion for those whom You bring into our lives today. In Your Name we pray. Amen.

A Prayer For Receiving God’s Grace

Father, Your amazing grace provides for us Your undeserved favor, forgiveness of sins, treasures of eternal worth, and blessed redemptive fear. Just as parents teach their children a healthy fear of the dangers present in their daily surroundings, so also Your grace teaches us to fear that which brings danger to our spirit in our daily battle with the enemy of our soul. We thank You for Your redemptive grace that sounds the alarm when we’re entering enemy territory. It comes to us through the Holy Spirit speaking to our hearts, through the Scriptures that convict us, through a concerned Christian brother or sister who prayerfully approaches us when they see us headed in the wrong direction, and it comes in the consequences we experience following the good or bad choices we make or the consequences we view in others’ lives who’ve made bad choices. Above all, it is Your loving grace that teaches us a healthy and reverential fear toward You, that we might walk in obedience to You and say no to ungodliness, worldly passions and live a self-controlled, upright and godly life in this present age. Thank You for the grace that becomes a personal reality the hour we first believe. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

A Prayer For A New Life

Father, as Your new creation we have crucified our sinful selves and found new life through Your indwelling Holy Spirit. We have given up our old selfish desires and sin no longer masters our thoughts and actions. We deny our sinful nature so that Your will may be accomplished in our lives as we reflect Your glory day by day. Your deliverance power gives us the strength we need to deal with ongoing temptation to yield to our old sinful nature. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. It is through Christ that we resist the enemy and yield to the Spirit. Amen.

A Prayer For An Eternal Focus

Father, would You show us through Your Holy Spirit and the Holy Scriptures and by the examples of committed believers what it is to live for the eternal. It seems that we indulge with the world far too much and it prioritizes our time, finances, and interests. As we love You more, we love the things of the world less. We see them for what they really are – temporary, broken, and/or sin-ridden. As we fix our eyes on You the things of this world grow strangely dim. We want to spend more time with You which will direct our thoughts and affections toward heaven. We want to deposit our investments there so that our treasure chest is growing with rust-proof, moth-proof, and thief-proofed treasures that last for all eternity.  In the Name of Jesus we pray.  Amen.

A Prayer For The Persecuted

“Father, like the seven churches in Revelation, we too have strengths and weaknesses, in which we receive Your commendation and need Your correction.  We want to be so yielded to Christ that we live for Him and are willing to die for Him.  We pray for our brothers and sisters who are currently facing all kinds of torment, suffering, and loss as they stand firm in the faith.  We pray that the Good News of Christ is reaching even more due to the persecuted church just as it has throughout the centuries.  Those who work the hardest to dispense with the Gospel are now exposed to it through the bold witness of those being imprisoned and persecuted.   Bibles, freedom, and personal rights may be withheld, but no ungodly official is able to quench Your Spirit that is very much alive in the hearts of those being persecuted for their faith.  The Word of God concealed in their hearts gives them power from on high to overpower the authority of sinful man. Encourage our brothers and sisters as they endure for the sake of Christ.  Prompt us by Your Holy Spirit to be faithful in prayer for them, that they will be released from their oppressors, and that their oppressors will come to faith.  In the name of Jesus we pray.  Amen.”

A Prayer For Reflecting Christ

“Father, we want to resemble You in our attitudes and our actions, as we are being transformed into Your likeness with ever-increasing glory. How grateful we are that the people we are today will improve with time as we stay the course and invite the work of the Holy Spirit to continue its sharpening chisel making less of us and more of You. May all our thought and words and doings honor You and reflect Your Holy Spirit. Be magnified in our lives, whether in our suffering affliction and loss, or achieving a life-long goal. In all we do we seek to honor You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.”

A Prayer For Spiritual Fitness

“Father, we know that our faith is increased and strengthened as we pray often in the Holy Spirit, as we keep ourselves in Your love instead of the love of the world. We direct our hearts to You in faith, prayer, and love as we anxiously await eternal life which is the greatest gift given to the believer because of Christ’s sacrificial death on our behalf. Keep us faithful and ever looking to the prize of the high calling we have through Christ Jesus our Lord, in whose name we pray. Amen.”

A Prayer For Proclaimers

“Father, we are deeply grateful for the inner work of the Holy Spirit in our lives that is changing us from a sinful self-serving people to a holy, compassionate, and generous people. It is Your almighty power released in us that can accomplish such miraculous change for the betterment of here and now and for the Kingdom of heaven as well. As we relate to others may the working power of the Holy Spirit be evident in our attitudes, actions, and ambitions of life.  We pray this in Jesus’ name.  Amen.”

Acts 5:3-5 (NIV)

“Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.” When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened.”
