A Prayer Of Thanks For The Christ Child

Father, just as the shepherds spread the word concerning what had been told them about the Child we too want to spread the word regarding all that we learn about the Christ Child through the revelation of Scripture and the Holy Spirit. Thank You for sending Jesus not only to royalty but also to the peasant, not only to the influential but also to the unknown. We do not hesitate but joyfully and openly bring Him glory and honor; the Babe, the Son of Mary. It is in His name that we pray. Amen.

A Prayer For Families

Father, I pray for the family unit, which is under vicious attack throughout the world today. Your perfect design cannot be improved upon even when earthly institutions attempt to redefine, enlighten, update or explain away Your original intent. I pray for godly parents to remain resolute in nurturing their children in the ways of the Lord. May Your Word and its instruction filter all that we see and hear so that You remain our absolute authority, not the ever-changing whims of our culture. I pray for our churches and their leaders to be cleansed and purified by Your Holy Word. May their instruction always be from Your inerrant Holy Word, not by those who present a societal agenda. By Your grace and our commitment to holy living we can reside in the world without having the mind of this world. Help us through Christ Jesus our Lord in whose name we pray. Amen.

A Prayer For Daily Bread

Father, in the same way that we grow hungry before mealtime, stir up a hunger within us for the spiritual food You provide through the living Word of God.  You are the Bread of Life who provides physically and spiritually for our daily needs.  Following a hearty meal we often linger around the dinner table considering the tastiness of our meal.  When we “taste and see that the Lord is good” we want to linger in Your presence and consider Your goodness, offering praise to You for all that You are and all that You provide for us.  Bread of Heaven feed us until we are truly satisfied and filled with all the good things that come from You.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

A Prayer Of Pondering On The Wonder Of Christ’s Birth

Father, there is so much to contemplate and ponder concerning the birth of Your Son, Jesus. Mary is a tremendous example of one who was unable to fully comprehend or understand Your plan, but trusted You even before the answer was revealed. Help us to follow in her steps and trust You to work out Your will and plan in our lives even in the mysterious workings of our daily circumstances. Your humble and obedient servant, Mary, fulfilled your plan for her life and we receive the Christ Child; the Savior, the Messiah, our Lord! Thank You. Amen.

A Prayer For Rescue Workers

Merciful Father, we confess that we can be impatient and judgmental toward those who reject You. We’ve come to realize that we can’t live without You but the unbeliever feels he or she has no need for You.  It seems we’re worlds apart in our outlook.  Use this passage from Jude to speak to our hearts about applying Your mercy to those who are not of the faith. They do not see through eyes of faith but are blinded to the spiritual truth. Jude also reminds us that while we must embrace the sinner in mercy and love, we must never embrace or endorse the sin. The allurement to sin is always before us, so we ask You to keep us safe. Do not let us deceive ourselves, but show us how to set up safeguards, while reaching out to those who are in sin’s entrapment.  Father, we don’t want to be complacent but want to be spiritually burdened with the critical need of reaching out to “the penitent child” who needs You.  In the name of Jesus, we pray.  Amen.

A Prayer Extolling Jesus

Jesus, though You were God, You did not cling to Your rights as God. Instead You made Yourself nothing, taking the humble position of a slave You appeared in human form. Though innocent You died a criminal’s death on a cross. Because of Your loving, sacrificial obedience our Father gave You the name that is above every other name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. I gratefully declare and confess You, Jesus Christ, to be my Lord and Savior right now and forevermore!  Amen.

A Prayer For Peace In Dealing With Death

Father, we thank You for Jesus who was born that man no more may die. The grave is not the end for the believer, but simply the passage way into an eternal dwelling with You, the celestial beings, our Lord Jesus Christ, and the saints whom we join there. The last enemy to be destroyed is death, but the lights of glory will welcome us into our eternal home where we will reunite with our dear loved ones who’ve gone before us.  Grant special grace to those who’ve experienced recent loss and encourage their hearts this day. We pray for this through Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer For Spiritual Freedom

Father, how glorious it is to enjoy freedom from sin, thanks to the sacrifice of Your Son on my behalf.  My life, once enslaved to sin, now enjoys the freedom from that which once held me captive to Satan’s bondage.  I live in victory because You have set me free and I am now free indeed.  Thank You, Father, for delivering me from the dominion of darkness and transferring me into the kingdom of Your beloved Son in whom I have redemption, the forgiveness of sin!  Amen.

A Prayer For A Faithful Witness

Father, You have entrusted the gospel message to all who have chosen to believe. Some are called to preach it in a public forum, others share it one on one day in and day out, through our lifestyle and through our words. We give careful attention to the Scriptures so that we can explain to others the simple yet mysterious Gospel message. We want to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God so that we can be faithful ambassadors for Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.

A Prayer Of Thanks For God’s Upholding Hand

Just as a loving parent takes the hand of a wobbly child to love, lead, protect, and steady him so it is with You, Father, who upholds us with Your righteous right hand. After all, it is Jesus at Your right hand who is always interceding for us. No tempest storm can overtake You and no earth-shattering event perplexes You. As we walk in Your ways help us to cling tightly to Your loving, protective hand so that we don’t veer off-course or become faint-hearted. We want to exchange fear for trust, replace self-reliance with God-reliance and depend upon Your plan rather than our own. Help us to do so.  Amen.
